Paula Vennells, the former CEO of Post Office Limited, is scheduled to face grilling in the next stage of an ongoing inquiry. The inquiry will probe claims that Vennells interfered in investigations related to the Horizon accounting scandal.
Vennells, who was awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in 2012, faces intense scrutiny. The inquiry, led by Sir Wyn Williams, is examining allegations that she suppressed information and misled Parliament about the Horizon scandal.
This scandal involved a faulty IT system that led to thousands of postmasters being wrongly accused of theft and fraud. The inquiry has heard evidence that Vennells was involved in decisions that exacerbated the suffering of affected postmasters.
Vennells' questioning is expected to be pivotal in determining the extent of her involvement. Her CBE remains in place as only the King can revoke such an honor.
