Timberwolves Trade For Star Center Rudy Gobert

Timberwolves Trade for Star Center Rudy Gobert

Anthony Edwards remains with the team after breakout season

Gobert to join Karl-Anthony Towns, forming formidable frontcourt duo

At the end of the day, we still have Anthony Edwards.

The Minnesota Timberwolves made a blockbuster trade on Wednesday, acquiring three-time All-Star center Rudy Gobert from the Utah Jazz. In exchange, the Timberwolves sent the Jazz a package of players that included four-time All-Star Jimmy Butler.

The move comes as a surprise, as the Timberwolves have been rumored to be interested in trading Butler for some time. However, the team has been adamant that Edwards is not available in any trade talks.

The addition of Gobert gives the Timberwolves one of the most formidable frontcourt duos in the NBA. Gobert is a three-time Defensive Player of the Year and is one of the best rim protectors in the league. He averaged 15.6 points and 14.7 rebounds per game last season.

Edwards, meanwhile, is coming off a breakout season in which he averaged 27.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game. He is one of the most exciting young players in the NBA and is considered a potential franchise cornerstone.

The Timberwolves are hoping that the addition of Gobert will help them take the next step and become a contender in the Western Conference. The team has not made the playoffs since 2018.

The trade is still pending league approval. If it is approved, the Timberwolves will have a new-look team next season with Gobert, Edwards, and Karl-Anthony Towns leading the way.
